IITs more entrepreneurial than Harvard, Yale: US-based study

A worldwide study has shown than in the past 5 years more entrepreneurs from the IIT have been backed by funding than their counterparts in distinguished US-institutions like Harvard, Cornell, Yale and Princeton.

In a list of 50 worldwide universities compiled by US private equity firm PitchBook, the IITs, with 264 entrepreneurs, are ranked 4th.

However, IITians do even better in the “Total Capital Raised” metric, with IITian entrepreneurs raising more than their Berkley (#2) and MIT (#3) counterparts!

A similar study last year had revealed that IITians were the 10th largest group of VC-funded entrepreneurs in the US since 2010, beating out graduates from institutions such as Yale and Princeton.

All this despite the fact that the IITs barely break into the top-200 in University World Rankings!

How do you think we are only the 300th best University, while producing more entrepreneurs than Harvard?

It goes to show that it is individual’s intelligence and hallmark that counts and not that of the institution.

This looks like comparing apples and oranges. All the IITs together are ranged against single institutions. Goes to show each of the IITs singly doesn’t have the critical mass to make an impact in individual institution rankings. When almost every respectable institution in the world has a much larger base of students they put out, IITs are refusing to scale up.
