IIT Gandhinagar wins
World Education Award 2013

The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) has won the ‘World Education Award 2013’ for its innovations in the B.Tech programme.

IITGN was declared winner in the category of best innovation by an engineering institute at the World Education Summit held in New Delhi this week. The summit is organised annually by the All India Council for Technical Education, Elets Technomedia, National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT), and United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO).

The award recognised several innovations in IITGN’s undergraduate programme, such as the unique five-week immersion foundation programme, a compulsory course on design and innovation, options for Honours and Minors, emphasis on project-based teaching and a unique ‘comprehensive viva-voce’ of each student every semester to identify their talents and weaknesses.

Sudhir Jain, director, IITGN, said, “The award is a testimony to the pedagogical contributions of our exceptional faculty and the innovations that make our educational programs so distinctive.”

The award was given by Mantriprasad Naithani, minister, School Education, Adult Education, Sanskrit Education, Government of Uttarakhand; Shahid Ali Khan, minister of Minority Welfare and IT, Government of Bihar; Lt Boris Jelovšek, minister plenipotentiary, Republic of Slovenia.
