IIT Delhi student wins innovation award for Safety Jewellery
An IIT Delhi student is the co-winner of the 2015 Ericsson Innovation Awards for project ‘Guardian’, a wearable security device that addresses the internet dependence of most women’s safety applications launched in the past few years. Fashionable into jewellery, the device can be easily disguised as a pendant or ring, and can use any type of communications system available – internet, SMS, cellular towers – to send out a distress signal. Additionally, it can also triangulate the wearer’s position via multiple cellular towers.
The IITD student was competing against 67 other teams of IIT students from Chennai, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
