Empowering paraplegics with ‘magic tablet’
Capal, a tablet that functions as an environmental control system has been created by Dr Prabhat Ranjan (an IIT-K graduate) and his team to empower the many paraplegics who are unable to functionally interact with the world. This wonderful tablet can translate the limited actions that these individuals are able to perform – blinking, slight movements of eyebrows or head or hand – to provide them with a fair degree of control over their environment. With the help of this device, paraplegics will be able to utilize everything from televisions, to light bulbs, air conditioners and even computers, opening up entirely novel vistas for them to explore.
